Patient Access Representative

The Patient Access Representative provides quality customer service to patients of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians, and co‑workers, ensuring that everyone is treated courteously, quickly, and with respect. This position establishes and maintains an environmental control plan, coordinates materials management for the department, assists in monitoring clinic activities, and provides supervision of clerical activities.
Responsibilities- Handle all business functions in an assigned area including reception, scheduling, and registering patients for appointments and/or procedures.
- Secure appropriate patient information, ensure registration data is correct and accurate; validate insurance eligibility, enter information into appropriate systems and collect co‑pay (if applicable).
- Assist with financial counseling and financial clearance as necessary.
- Assist in monitoring and coordinating clinic activities and materials management.
- Supervise clerical activities as needed.

- Previous experience with computers, Microsoft Office software, and navigating the Internet.
- Previous experience keyboarding with the ability to type 40 words per minute.
- Work experience with medical insurance, HMO, managed care, GE/IDX, Cerner order entry, appointment scheduling.
- Previous work experience in a healthcare setting and knowledge of medical terminology.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or closely related field from an accredited program.
- Able to perform daily activities with minimal supervision: being self‑directed in the accomplishment of routine activities.
- Functions in a self‑directed manner to accomplishments of routine activities.
Position Requirements
- Depending on assignment, may be required to work off‑shifts and/or weekend and holidays.
- Incumbents may be considered essential depending on departmental assignment.
- Lifting less than 20 lbs.
- Lifting 50-100 lbs.
- Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Fast pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, able to adapt to frequent, change.
