The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist performs routine and complex high quality imaging exams in assigned modalities. The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist provides safe, patient-centered care with attention to the physical and emotional needs of patients of all age groups. The specialty technologist must be willing and able to learn new skills, and is required to maintain annual competencies in assigned modalities.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT).
- Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a Sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography.
- RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography.
- RVT certification as a Vascular Technologist.
- At least one of the following specialty certifications: MRI, CT, PET ARDMS or CCI or RDCS or RVT‑specialty certification VI or CI or CCI Mammo.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT).
- Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB).
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography.
- RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography.
- RVT certification as a Vascular Technologist.
- One (1) year of previous technologist work experience.
- One (1)–3 years of previous technologist work experience in either of the assigned modalities.
- Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology that is recognized by the ARRT.
- Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Nuclear Medicine that is recognized by the NMTCB and/or
- Graduation from a CAAHEP or CMA Accredited Program in Medical/Cardiac/Vascular Sonography.
- Graduation from a minimum of a 2‑year JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography that is recognized by the ARRT.
- Graduation from a Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, JRC‑DMS or
- Graduation from a Bachelor’s degree program in Sonography or Vascular Sonography.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiations Science, Radiologic Technology, Sonography, or Vascular Sonography.
- Independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of radiologic imaging exams.
- Independently complete imaging exams based on physician written order, department protocols, and institutional safety standards.
- Represent the goals, values, and vision of VCU Health System.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards, health system and department policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines applicable to role.
- Resolve basic service delivery issues.
Position Requirements
- Position requires review, signature, and adherence to supplementary job description and scopes of practice for assigned modality locations.
- Weekend only shifts.
- Radiologic Technologists are considered "Essential Employees" who may be required to report to work in accordance with the VCUHS Policy.
- Lifting 20‑50 lbs.
- Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, walking (distance), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
- Prolonged computer interaction.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Fast‑pace environment, noisy environment, ability to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, ability to adapt to frequent change.
