The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist performs routine and complex high quality imaging exams in assigned modalities. The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist provides safe, patient-centered care with attention to the physical and emotional needs of patients of all age groups. The Specialty Multi-Modality Technologist must be willing and able to learn new skills, and is required to maintain annual competencies in assigned modalities.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) or ARRT(S) as a Sonographer or RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography or RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist, and at least one of the following specialty certifications: MRI, CT, PET, ARDMS, CCI, RDCS, RVT (specialty), VI or CI or CCI Mammo
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Certification by ARRT or NMTCB or ARRT as a Sonographer (ARRT(S)) or RDMS or CCI certification in Medical Sonography or RDCS certification in Cardiac Sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist
- Required:
One (1) year of previous Technologist work experience. - Preferred:
One (1)–3 years of previous Technologist work experience in either of the assigned modalities. - Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment is preferred.
- Required:
Graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology recognized by ARRT, or graduation from a JRC Accredited Program in Nuclear Medicine recognized by NMTCB, or graduation from a CAAHEP or CMA Accredited Program in Medical/Cardiac/Vascular Sonography, or graduation from a minimum 2-year JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography recognized by ARRT or JRC-DMS, or graduation from a Bachelor’s degree program in Sonography or Vascular Sonography. - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiations Science, Radiologic Technology, Sonography, or Vascular Sonography.
Specialty Multi-Modality Technologists independently perform or assist the licensed independent practitioner in the completion of radiologic imaging exams. They independently complete imaging exams based on physicians written order, department protocols, and institutional safety standards. They represent the goals, values, and vision of VCU Health System and ensure adherence to regulatory standards, health system and department policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines applicable to the role.
They resolve basic service delivery issues.

AdditionalPosition Requirements
- Position requires review, signature, and adherence to supplementary job description and scopes of practice for assigned modality locations.
- Weekend only shifts.
- Radiologic Technologists are considered “Essential Employees” who may be required to report to work in accordance with the VCUHS Policy.
