Overview
The Ultrasonographer Supervisor provides day-to-day supervision for an assigned Imaging area (e.g., Diagnostic, Breast Imaging, Stony Point, CT/MR, US) and oversees STAR Service, legal and regulatory compliance, clinical operations, human resources, safety and quality, customer service, leadership, and fiscal responsibility.
Responsibilities- Ensure that all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed by qualified and competent staff, are of high quality, and follow radiation safety principles (ALARA) and applicable ACR guidelines (imaging practices and MRI safety).
- Ensure compliance with VCU and VCUHS policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with lead technologists and front line staff to solve problems and remove barriers to success; implement new initiatives, programs, and policies.
- Work with other Imaging Supervisors, Managers, Faculty, and staff to ensure departmental safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Report to the Modality Manager and supervise the clinical functions and processes for the assigned Imaging area; through lead technologists and staff, maintain daily clinical operation with focus on safety, efficiency, high quality, and cost-effective care.
- Supervise, oversee, maintain, and improve business functions and processes related to areas of responsibility; develop staff education and competencies, including educational materials and competency forms.
- Provide education to the assigned team, students, residents, and other learners; operate within the Scope of Practice of the specialty. Maintain technical competency across areas of responsibility.
- Current ARRT(S) or RDMS or RDCS certification in cardiac sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist or CCI certification in medical sonography (for Sonography Supervisor only).
- Current CPR Certification by American Heart Association or within 6 months of hire date.
- Experience REQUIRED Minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible Diagnostic Radiology experience.
- Experience PREFERRED Experience performing in a leadership role; previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.
- Education/training REQUIRED Graduation from a CAAHEP or CMA Accredited Program in medical/cardiac/vascular sonography or graduation from a minimum of a 2-year JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography recognized by the ARRT or JRC.
- Education/training PREFERRED Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Radiation Science or closely related field from an accredited program is strongly preferred;
Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field from an accredited program is preferred.
All day-to-day workflow coordination and team supervision. Advice and guidance sought from Manager on an as-needed basis for major modality impacts.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesAll team members in the assigned modality report to this position; day-to-day workflow responsibilities may be delegated as appropriate. Supervisors are expected to cover unplanned staff absences on any shift, as needed.
