General FunctionOn surgery days, the Ophthalmic Procedure Tech (OPT) manages instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure, anticipating the surgeon’s needs and maintaining a sterile environment. On non‑surgery days, the OPT supports general preparation, administration, and other duties within the Clinic and Retail business.
MajorDuties & Responsibilities
- Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure
- Scrubs, gowns, and gloves
- Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure
- Checks for accuracy of implant order and verifies implant available with circulator
- Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants
- Helps in draping sterile field
- Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure
- Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure
- Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization
- Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room
- Assists in prepping room for the next patient
- Supports the clinic and retail businesses as needed during non‑surgery days
- Relevant experience in a medical, surgical, or optical environment
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Strong basic math skills
- Must have a strong command of the English language for all written correspondence & oral communication
- Committed team player
- Dedication to detail and process
- Proven ability to problem solve
- Relevant medical or surgical certifications/degrees
- Strong knowledge of basic optics
- State licensure (if applicable) &/or ABO Certification in non‑licensed states
- Knowledge of retail operations, processes & policies
