A Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) supports Principal Investigators (PI) by activating, executing and managing clinical research studies or protocols. The CRN requires active clinical licensure for duties expected to be directly performed. At Massey, the CRN has complex and intensive participant contact in a clinical setting, demanding high clinical competency to perform research‑related study work. Typical duties include assessing feasibility, determining participation eligibility, establishing data‑collection guidelines, recruiting participants and performing complex activities involved in the collection, compilation, documentation, and analysis of clinical research data.

A Clinical Research Nurse (CRN) supports Principal Investigators in the day‑to‑day activities for activation, execution, and management of clinical research studies or protocols. The role reports in‑person in downtown Richmond with flexibility to work hybrid (5 days per month) after review, 3–6 months training and manager approval.
- Recruitment, enrollment, retention, and data collection: drives study coordination and regulatory management with participant recruitment, enrollment, tracking, data collection, data processing/resolution (discrepancies, queries, etc.), verification, case‑finding, evaluation, abstraction of source documentation, completion of case report forms, database use/management, and archiving of data.
- Develops best‑practice guidance and work aids for respective research teams, following standard practice guidelines and utilizing multiple data capture/retrieval systems.
- Acts as lead research coordinator for an emerging central coordinator pool and participates in expanding portfolio staffing and management.
- Maintains advanced understanding of clinical research management duties (federal, state, sponsor regulations, university policies).
- Maintains current CITI credentials and sponsor GCP certifications; understands IRB requirements and human‑subjects regulations.
- Provides ongoing resource and expert advice on clinical research to team members, sponsors, and PI.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and active clinical RN licensure.
- 2+ years of relevant experience supporting data‑management activities or equivalent education, training, and experience.
- 2+ years of experience with clinical research or healthcare technologies (EDC software, XML, OnCore, EMR, Red Cap, DEEP6A, etc.).
