Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Tech - Automated Core Laboratory - St. Mary's Hospital - PRN (Evenings)

St. Mary's Hospital, Richmond, VA
Evening shift PRN ). Rotates every 3rd weekend (Sat/Sun). At least 24 hours required every four weeks.
Summary Of Primary FunctionMedical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) perform all aspects of testing on patient samples to detect diseases. They examine various sample types, report findings to ordering physicians, and consult on results.
Essential Job Functions- Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures; interpret and analyze results.
- Identify and correct problems within scope of training and education.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and validate lab equipment.
- Perform, record and evaluate Quality Control.
- Assist Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, schedules, and safety.
- Conduct competency assessments.
- May develop and evaluate new testing methods, depending on experience and position.
BSMH: MLS Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent (preferably ASCP) required.
RSFH (as of 3/27/25):
If registry-eligible, must achieve certification within 12 months of hire.
Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Biochemistry from a CLIA‑approved program.
Work ExperienceExternship program completed (preferred).
