Duties & ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an hourly senior research laboratory technician to support the principal investigator with a variety of routine, technical, and administrative responsibilities, including collecting specimens, preparing materials, operating and maintaining equipment, ordering lab supplies, and maintaining inventory. This person will also assist with data analysis and report writing. This person will work independently and as a member of a team.
It will work under general supervision, resolving most standard issues independently and referring complex issues to an upper-level manager. The technician will assist in studies exploring the molecular mechanisms associated with the SPAG
17 gene. This is a grant-funded position.
performing experimental procedures (45% effort), data analysis (10% effort), mouse colony management (25%), laboratory maintenance and management (10% effort), participating in mentoring, coaching, and training of students in the lab (10%).
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. At least 2 years of lab experience which may include student experience. Bachelor's degree in related science will be considered in lieu of experience.
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and interpret data.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with colleagues.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge in molecular cell biology laboratory techniques. Familiar with scientific methods and data processing.
- Previous experience with laboratory procedures in general cell and molecular biology, including cell culture, DNA/protein quantification, PCR, immunoblotting and mouse handling.
- Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures
- Analytical skills and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biological sciences
$25-$28, commensurate with experience
