This position will report to the Chief Administrative Officer and Senior Associate Dean for Business Affairs and will provide oversight and leadership of programs and tools supporting the School of Medicine Teaching and Research (T&R) faculty and their compensation plan. Key responsibilities include developing databases and metrics to track faculty productivity and effort, creating comprehensive reporting systems for academic leaders and ensuring compensation components – spanning research, education, service and the academic portions of the MCV Physicians compensation plan – are accurately supported.
The Director will collaborate closely with SOM Faculty Affairs, Finance & Administration, MCVP compensation team and Department leadership to ensure alignment with the strategic goals of the SOM.
- Develop programs and databases to support the management of the Teaching & Research Compensation Plan
- Collaborate with SOM leadership and SOM Technology Office to coordinate multiple stand-alone data sources into a comprehensive tool with extensive reporting capabilities and dashboards
- Develop annual review process for validating faculty effort and methodology for incorporation into measurable parameters to establish annual salary illustrations
- Develop and maintain processes for continuous evaluation and improvements to the plan and supporting systems

Coordinate the oversight and decision-making committees needed for plan administration. - Conduct regular benchmarking and analysis to monitor market trends and ensure compensation packages remain competitive for attracting and retaining talent.
- Maintain the plan documentation, compile feedback and engage stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements
- Collaborate closely with SOM Finance on T&R comp plan alignment with school and department financial resources and annual budget processes
- Collaborate with Faculty Affairs to develop materials to support chairs, faculty and administrators in understanding and administering the plan and potential impacts of changes.
- Collaborate with SOM and MCVP leadership to ensure we maintain alignment where needed between T&R and Clinical plans as it relates to research, teaching, administration, and (non-clinical) service in support of VCU based activity.
- Lead and support training, communications, or other activities and projects related to faculty compensation, performance management, etc.
- Define the specific business rules and formulas that translate academic activity (e.g., teaching credits, grant effort, and administrative roles) into the data points used by the compensation system.
- Act as the lead “Functional Owner” for faculty data, translating SOM compensation policies into clear technical specification for the Technology Office to implement.
- Establish standards to ensure faculty data remains consistent and accurate as it flows between disparate systems.
- Design and lead validation cycles to ensure that the compensation tools are correctly applying the T&R Plan methodology before final salary illustrations are issued.
- Perform “stress tests” on the compensation plan logic to model how potential policy changes would impact faculty salary distributions and departmental budgets.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience:
Five or more years of progressively responsible experience developing academic faculty compensation programs and supporting database tools preferably in an academic medical center environment. - Data Fluency:
