Department Overview
The Department of Neurology has a talented, robust team of more than 70 faculty members spanning nine divisions includes representatives from every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, plus award-winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists and master clinicians.
The Department of Neurology’s vision is to provide the best patient-centered neurological care while fostering the career development, education and training of our team members. We endeavor to realize this vision by fulfilling the following three missions:
Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists.
Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Vascular Neurology. The Vascular Neurology Division is the home of VCU’s Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical and/or translational research.
PositionResponsibilities
- Clinical
- Primary clinical responsibilities include care of patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Candidates with appropriate training and experience may be asked to provide endovascular stroke care.
- Teaching
- The faculty member will be expected to teach medical students, neurology residents (and those from other Departments), and vascular neurology fellows.
- Research
- The Division of Vascular Neurology is engaged in clinical and translational research projects. The faculty member will be expected to participate in, and when appropriate lead, clinical and/or translational research projects and clinical trials.
- Service
- Faculty member will serve on departmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field, e.g. reviewer, conference organizer, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
- BC/BE in Neurology
- Fellowship training in Vascular Neurology
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated promise, or a successful track record, as a clinical or translational vascular neuroscientist
- Training and experience in endovascular stroke care
