The VCU Department of Psychiatry is seeking to hire a part-time research assistant to support ongoing projects focused on autism and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Position ResponsibilitiesDr. Paige Cervantes and the CARE lab in the Child and Adolescent Division of VCU’s Department of Psychiatry are seeking a part-time research assistant. The CARE lab aims to improve community mental health services for autistic children and adolescents through research.
This research assistant position will primarily involve data management and analysis as well as dissemination of findings through manuscript preparation and community and academic conference presentations. Opportunities to contribute to data collection and project management may also be available.
Current projects are focused on identifying barriers and facilitators to the implementation of best practice mental health care for autistic youth as well as on understanding and adapting mental health assessment measures to improve the detection and monitoring of psychiatric symptoms in autistic children and adolescents.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- 1-2 years experience in research
- Familiarity with data management systems, such as REDCap
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in conducting literature reviews
- Commitment of approximately 5 hours or more per week
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently have or are pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree
- Strong interest and prior experience in autism research
- Experience with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis
