The Certified Medical Assistant provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the physician.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, the National Association of Healthcare Professionals, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through a recognized national professional association such as the American Association of Medical Assistants, the American Medical Technologists, the National Association of Healthcare Professionals, the American Registry of Medical Assistants, or the National Healthcare Association.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
- One (1) year of medical assistant work experience within the last three (3) years if individual is not a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- No work experience if individual is a graduate of a medical assistant program.
- Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications, including Microsoft and e‑mail.
- Demonstrated experience utilizing strong organizational, problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of previous experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
- Previous experience in an academic health care environment.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Graduation from a Medical Assisting training program from an accredited program of study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).
Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner, manager, and/or RN in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure. Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes; legal issues; directed care which deviates from standard; and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs.
