The Occupational Therapist TTWP job conducts evaluations on referred patients. This role plans and implements a comprehensive treatment program that includes discharge planning, patient/family education, and recommendations for follow‑up or continued care. The OT documents results of the OT evaluation and services provided in accordance with hospital and department guidelines. This therapist participates as a member of a self‑directed departmental team as well as an interdisciplinary patient care team, provides clinical instruction to OT and OTA students as needed, and offers training and education to department and hospital staff.
Licensure,Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire
Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Continued EmploymentCurrent license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as an Occupational Therapist. Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area.
Experience REQUIREDMinimum of 1 year of work experience as an Occupational Therapist.
Experience PREFERREDPrevious experience with evaluations and interventions (physical and psycho‑social).
Education/training REQUIREDGraduate of an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.
Education/training PREFERREDMasters or Doctoral Degree from an accredited School of Occupational Therapy.
Successful challenge of the VCUHS Occupational Therapy Clinical Ladder.
Independent Actions Required- Evaluation and treatment of patients with routine diagnoses.
- Setting schedule and managing time.
- Reporting in interdisciplinary rounds.
- Goal setting for routine diagnoses.
- Completion of routine documentation.
- Interaction with the interdisciplinary team and self‑directed work team.
- Customer interaction.
Occupational Therapist provides supervision for Rehab Technician, COTA staff, volunteers and students doing clinical rotations.
AdditionalPosition Requirements
- Cross‑coverage to other treatment teams as needed.
- Saturday/holiday coverage on a rotating basis and flexibility in work hours as needed to accommodate departmental needs as applicable.
As appropriate based on unit assignment.
Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate)- Weight lifting 50–100 lbs.
- Frequent bending, walking (distance), climbing (steps, ladder, other), reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Can manage a fast‑pace environment, steady pace, handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adapt to frequent change.
