The Pharmacy Manager manages inpatient and/or ambulatory pharmacies and provides leadership and oversight for pharmacy services.
The Pharmacy Manager oversees and is accountable for expense and revenue budgets, provides leadership, and meets customer service objectives.
The Pharmacy Manager ensures and maintains compliance with all legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
The Pharmacy Manager supervises and directs assigned pharmacy staff providing inpatient and/or ambulatory services.
Licensure- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment (for hire).
- Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy (for continued employment).
- Minimum of three (3) years of previous work experience as a Pharmacist or completion of a two (2) year residency program with a focus in pharmacy administration plus one (1) year of work experience as a Pharmacist (required).
- Previous experience working with pharmacy information systems and automation (required).
- Five (5) or more years of previous work experience as a Pharmacist (preferred).
- One (1) or more years of supervisory or management experience specifically in outpatient pharmacy services (preferred).
- Previous experience with patient support programs (e.g., Ryan White, ADAP, VHCA 340B) (preferred).
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program (required).
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.
D.) from an accredited academic program (preferred).
- Provides leadership to meet staffing and service requirements of an active, busy pharmacy.
- Responds to patient service and other managerial issues independently.
- Hires, disciplines and makes performance review decisions.
- Handles the full range of supervisor responsibilities to include hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplining and providing learning opportunities.
- Coordinates recruitment and orientation of all employees as well as the training and education of pharmacy staff.
- Supports staff development activities.
- Makes recommendations for development activities and programs.
- Develops competency-based staff assessment standards and ensures that they are met.
- Addresses performance issues as they occur.
Position Requirements
- May be involved in teaching, both within the Pharmacy Department and in other areas of the hospital.
- May be involved with student teaching, both from clerkship rotations and didactic teaching.
- May assist with other items as needed.
- Physical - Lifting 20-50 lbs.
