Assistant Accountant

Looking for your next accounting position within a supportive, high-performing finance team? We’re partnering with a well-known and highly respected Melbourne-based organisation to appoint a capable Assistant Accountant initially for 2–4 months, commencing by Monday 9th March. For those with the appropriate working rights, there is a chance that this role could become permanent in the future. Interviews will take place week commencing 2nd March, so we’re seeking candidates available to start at short notice.

This role sits within a collaborative finance function and offers exposure to a broad range of transactional and month-end responsibilities. You’ll play a key part in ensuring reconciliations are completed accurately and on time, while supporting Accountants during reporting periods. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, solving problems, and improving processes.

• Preparation and posting of journals
• Balance sheet reconciliations
• Credit card and expense reconciliations
• Review, coding and processing of corporate credit cards and travel expenses
• Support with month-end reporting and accruals
• Assistance with bank and general ledger reconciliations
• Investigating discrepancies and providing clear commentary
• Supporting the wider finance team with ad‑hoc tasks as required

We’re looking for someone who brings:

• Prior experience in a similar Finance Officer / Assistant Accountant role
• Exposure to journals and balance sheet reconciliations
• Strong Excel and general ledger systems knowledge
• A curious, analytical mindset with a natural inclination to investigate variances
• High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• The confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders when resolving issues
