Overview
Principal Risk Specialist, Business Continuity Risk Management within Capital One's Operational Risk Management second line of defense. The role provides risk advice and challenge to the first line of defense in identification, management, control, and mitigation of business continuity risks. The Business Continuity Risk Management (BCRM) team oversees governance and oversight of Capital One’s business continuity practices to enable response to and recovery from disruptions.
As part of the broader ORM organization, you will collaborate with business partners to ensure an effective, holistic operational risk profile while delivering value and protecting customers.
You will contribute as a change agent, bringing project, process, and analytical skills to partner with stakeholders in an open, collaborative environment where ideas and solutions are welcomed and rewarded.
Responsibilities- Provides risk advice to businesses and support functions in alignment with the second line framework to oversee Capital One’s operational resilience
- Analyzes data, conducts transaction testing, and helps proactively identify risks and trends
- Fosters a highly collaborative environment with team members and partner groups to create an integrated risk experience for the business
- Executes challenge activities and escalates appropriately to Operational Risk Management leadership
- Demonstrates strong communication, collaboration, problem solving and influencing skills across various levels of the organization
- Balances multiple priorities to drive business value and support team objectives while managing risk-related tasks and activities
- Stays current on effective operational resilience strategies and business continuity requirements
- Supports oversight, guidance and effective challenge to business areas during risk assessments (Risk and Control Self-Assessments, Process Level Assessments, New Products) as needed
- Supports interactions with Internal Audit and Regulatory agencies, as applicable
- Bachelor’s Degree or military experience
- At least 2 years of experience in risk, compliance or audit
- At least 2 years of experience working with internal business customers
- At least 1 year of experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, or technology resilience
- At least 1 year of testing experience (such as transaction testing, control testing)
- 3+ years of experience in risk, compliance or audit
- 2+ years of testing experience (such as transaction testing, control testing)
- 1+ years of project management experience leading cross functional programs in risk
- Certification in risk management, audit, or business continuity management (CBCP, CRMA, CIA, CISA, CRISC)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. This information is solely for candidates hired to work within one of these locations and reflects the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.
McLean, VA: $120,800 - $137,900 for Principal Risk Specialist
Richmond, VA: $109,900 - $125,400 for Principal Risk Specialist
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary offered will be shown in the offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
