Overview and Responsibilities

The Manager of Business/Finance provides leadership of Financial Operations by managing resources, analysis, and business management in areas such as business and decision analytics, financial planning and management, budgeting, procurement, general business operations, facilities management, staff supervision, performance improvement, and information technology coordination. The role identifies issues related to existing programs and recommends effective solutions, ensures compliance with governmental rules, and serves as an interface between operating units and centralized accounting functions.

Experience

Required
  • Minimum 5 years in finance or accounting with 1 year in a healthcare environment.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with spreadsheets, databases, and report‑writing software.
  • Experience in data/information analysis.
  • Previous experience with compensation, payroll, contracts, business administration, process improvement, data analytics, revenue cycle and/or regulation compliance.
  • Previous experience with contract negotiations.
Experience Preferred
  • 7 years in finance or accounting with 3 years of management experience.
  • 3 years in a healthcare environment, preferably an academic medical center or physician practice.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Education and Training Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field, with coursework in operations management, financial management, and cost accounting.
Education and Training Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Health Administration, or related field.
Certifications Preferred

CPA, CMA, CHFP, or FHFMA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently develop and produce financial reports for VCUHS leadership in collaboration with IT, Finance, Decision Support, and other departments.
  • Participate with senior administration and the medical staff in developing program expansions and new venture proposals.
  • Manage staff that provides financial analyses and reports to support department operations.
Additional

Position Requirements
  • May require working early/late hours or weekends, depending on office and senior leadership needs.
  • May require infrequent day or overnight travel.
