The Payment Specialist is responsible for processing and applying payments, daily reconciliation with banking reports, and resolving credit-related issues through addressing incoming phone calls and emails from Lansing branch associates and customers.
Essential Functions:- Process payments via multiple payment methods (ACH, checks and credit cards) from various sources (lockbox, customer portal & branch payments).
- Post payments to customer accounts and apply to related invoices per customer remittance. Involves daily contact with customers and team members to determine proper application.
- Daily reconciliation of posted payments to banking reports. Review unapplied cash reports to determine cash application.
- Respond to incoming phone calls from Lansing associates and customers by resolving credit-related issues. Involves decision‑making on managing past due accounts, responding to billing questions, and assisting associates with customer portal & payment application issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work accurately but quickly to handle a high transaction volume.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet daily deadlines.
- Ability to reconcile accounting records.
- Ability to work with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic proficiency with Excel and Word.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
This position operates in a professional, office environment.
Physical DemandsThis is largely a sedentary role, requiring use of typical office equipment such as a computer, phone, copier, check scanner, etc.
Hours of Work:This is a full‑time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Education Requirements:- High school diploma.
- 2 years+ related experience in an accounting environment.
- Bachelor's degree is a plus, but not required.
