VCU Investment Management Company (“VCIMCO”), located in Richmond, Virginia, is a non-profit entity founded in 2015, which provides investment management and related services to Virginia Commonwealth University (“VCU”), VCU Health, and affiliated entities (together “the Partners”). Governed by a Board of Directors, the VCIMCO staff invests the Partners’ assets with the goal of meeting each entity’s long-term risk adjusted return objectives.

VCIMCO is responsible for setting asset allocation targets, researching and selecting investments, and providing regular portfolio reports. Currently, VCIMCO manages $2.4 billion in assets.

Job Description

The VCIMCO Investment Analyst works as an integral member of the Investment Team, participating in all aspects of the research process. Typical tasks include supporting the senior investment team by producing data and analytics on asset classes or investment opportunities, participation in meetings with third-party investment managers, preparation for VCIMCO and Partner Board meetings, and other tasks as necessary. Over time, the analyst will be given the opportunity to participate meaningfully in the sourcing and diligence of new investment opportunities.

Analysts operate as generalists, giving them access to a broad range of investment strategies. The ideal candidate will have strong academic skills, be task oriented, be a self-starter, have a service mindset, and be detail oriented. Knowledge of economics, statistics, finance, math, or accounting is desirable.

The position is hybrid, requiring the candidate to spend three days per week in the Richmond, Virginia office.

Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point
• Experience building analytical models
• Demonstrated interest in financial markets or investing
• Quick learner and intellectually curious
• Ability to work within a team and on their own
• Discretion with sensitive information
• Experience with Bloomberg is desirable
• Demonstrated interest in applying emerging technologies, such as AI, to improve portfolio management and risk assessment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or related field
• One to three years of experience in financial services, consulting, or related industry
• Candidate may travel as necessary for investment diligence
• In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
