Location:
VCU. This position is full-time and exempt.
The Director of Finance and Strategic Budgeting provides strategic financial planning and leadership for the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS).
Responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership of financial planning and operating budget management; align financial resources with organizational goals and priorities.
- Advise the Dean, Associate Deans, and leadership on financial strategy and programmatic priorities; foster accountability, collaboration, and service excellence.
- Ensure compliance with university, federal, and state laws, regulations, and policies; supervise a team of financial analysts and specialists; lead day-to-day operational finance activities.
- Coordinate with sponsored programs, endowments, and auxiliary services; contribute to long-term financial planning and strategic execution.
- Lead institutional change efforts, communicate transitions clearly, engage stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement with professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; 5–7+ years of progressively responsible financial management experience.
- Significant financial leadership in large, complex organizations (nonprofit/government sectors acceptable).
- Experience developing and managing strategic plans, multi-year financial models, annual operating budgets, and complex fiscal operations.
- Strong background in financial systems, modeling, and advanced data analysis; problem solving and innovative administrative/financial solutions.
- Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop staff; ability to build cross-functional relationships and drive results.
- Commitment to respectful, professional, and civil work environment; experience with sponsored programs and university foundation accounts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.
- Extensive university-level financial management experience; ability to oversee diverse academic program finances and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing sponsored programs and foundation accounts with solid understanding of compliance and reporting.
