Geotechnical Internship - Special Projects Group (Level
1)
As an Intern working with our geotechnical group, you will reinforce your education through a practical, hands‑on, paid work experience. Your work will be realistic and rewarding, giving you a position of responsibility. You will contribute ideas, develop knowledge and communication skills, and interact with top professionals in your field. This internship is a learning experience that allows you to explore career options, discover your strengths, and help set career goals.
You will receive meaningful assignments that provide a sense of accomplishment and a “can‑do” attitude will prepare you to take on any project. An internship with ECS will give you the opportunity for career growth within our company.
- Assist with performing lab testing
- Draft boring logs and location diagrams
- Schedule drill rigs for geotechnical projects
- Obtain utility clearance for subsurface explorations
- Assist with the subsurface exploration program and prepare drilling instructions
- Perform boring and test pit layouts using conventional surveying and GPS
- Classify soil samples
- Perform hand augers to obtain subsurface information and soil samples
- Observe foundation or ground improvement installations
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, or a related field
- Interest in how structures are supported and a desire to think outside the box
- Must be able to provide suitable transportation for use on job sites (mileage will be reimbursed)
- Position requires carrying 40–70 lbs multiple times a day or occasionally lifting 85 lbs to waist height
