Responsibilities

The successful candidate will travel to collect GIS data, field measurements, and photos of utility poles. These poles are identified by our client’s customers for new communications attachments. Field engineers document these locations and collect the necessary data for Leidos designers to design solutions and fixes. You will use a hasting stick or other measuring technologies to determine pole attachment heights and utility‑owned distribution lines/attachments.

Field data will be collected using Leidos proprietary software to update utilities GIS and make design determinations. You may need to keep a rental car overnight or for extended periods. In general, travel will be limited most weeks, but overnight stays are required depending on workload. Technicians are expected to meet weekly goals and communicate status and progress effectively.

  • Significant walking is required; 90‑95% of this position requires field work. Candidates will be outside year‑round, subject to weather and safety, and may inspect poles in urban, rural, backyard pole lines, private properties, and Transmission and Distribution Right of Ways.
  • Work locations are assigned weekly. Long distances may be offset with hotel accommodations.
  • Leidos may pay for a rental truck or SUV.
  • Hours are flexible based on inspection needs. Candidates must follow safety procedures and report progress daily.

Qualifications
  • 4‑year degree is preferred; experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in power distribution or a related STEM field is preferred.
  • Experience in GIS with Esri products or other GIS data collection software.
  • Prior field work and distribution component identification experience.
  • Ability to work independently and organize work to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of NESC Standards and Client Standards is helpful.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Ability to learn and use Apple products.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Ability to work long days in outdoor environments.
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to utilize cell phone and 8MP camera.
