Job SummaryOur client is seeking a qualified candidate for a DERMS Engineer who will implement a Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS) and support grid operations with high levels of distributed energy resources (DERs). The engineer will design and develop new grid control paradigms that leverage DERMS capabilities, integrate DERMS with ADMS, GIS, and other systems, and work with Regional Operations Centers to embed DERMS functions into work processes.
RequiredKnowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Candidates should have a strong electrical engineering background, preferably in electric power systems or related engineering fields within the utility industry. This includes experience in transmission and distribution system operations, substation engineering, or DER operations.
- Engineer II: 3+ years of directly related experience (e.g., research engineering work on relevant utility projects).
- Engineer III: 5+ years of directly related experience (e.g., research engineering work on relevant utility projects).
- Demonstrated experience implementing, operating, managing, or supporting ADMS, DERMS, and their integrations.
- Understanding of the suite of software applications used by grid operators.
- Advanced knowledge of grid control algorithms/techniques including AI/ML, data analytics, microgrids, digital twin modeling, and managing grids with high renewable penetration.
- Preferred experience in power system modeling and familiarity with CYME, Synergi Electric, OpenDSS, etc.
- Preferred firm understanding of distribution system challenges with DER integration.
- Self‑motivated engineer capable of working cooperatively in a team and independently seeking knowledge.
- Possess a 4‑year engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
- Possess a 4‑year degree in Engineering (non‑ABET) or Physics/ Chemistry/ Math/ Engineering Technology plus a post‑graduate Engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
- Experience in IT/system integration.
- Experience working across business and IT teams within a utility, including ADMS, GIS, etc.
- Experience in team and process management.
- Strong leadership, organizational, risk assessment, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (preferred focus on electric power systems).
- Professional Engineer license preferred but not mandatory.
- Office Work Environment: 76‑100%
