THIS ROLEEstimating and Bidding
- Review new project bid opportunities with the Estimating Management Team. Be prepared to discuss the required scope, basic metrics like assumed tonnage, schedule, and the clients pursuing the project.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and related documents to determine project scope and requirements.
- Assist with managing a bid schedule and assigning projects to the erection estimators in the department, ensuring workloads are balanced and deadlines are met.
- Assist with reviewing all erection estimates. This includes in-depth reviews of the take-off drawings and specifications, estimating programs, and AI automated Take-Off Programs / Esti-Models if applicable.
- Complete final bid reviews with the Estimating Director prior to sending a proposal to the client.
- Aid the estimator in the completion of final bid proposals and documents once all internal bid reviews are complete.
- As required, perform the duties of an estimator to complete a bid for a project.
- Lead and mentor a team of estimators, ensuring high-quality output and adherence to deadlines.
- Monitor workload distribution to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Lead your estimator(s) through communication and collaboration with clients and stakeholders during bidding ensuring all concerns, qualifications, exclusions, logistics, and scope is accurately communicated.
- Lead and provide guidance for your estimator(s) when they are sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating with equipment and material suppliers and subcontractors.
- Overall support and problem solving for issues and concerns that come up in the department. This could be project bid or department related.
- Ensure your department is following all company policies and procedures and is working safely. Collaborate with leadership, HR, and safety as necessary.
- Monitor market trends, material costs, and labor rates to maintain up-to-date pricing strategies.
- Evaluate industry developments and innovations to improve estimating practices and stay competitive.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors to ensure competitive pricing and reliable delivery.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure alignment between estimates and project execution.
- Provide pre-construction support, including value engineering and alternative design recommendations.
- Analyze post-project costs to refine estimating methods and improve accuracy for future projects. Post-project costs will be provided by the project PM and/or production/erection leadership team.
- Ensure estimates comply with applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Verify that bids align with client requirements and project timelines.
- Review completed estimates from estimators to ensure accuracy and timely submission to clients.
- Assist with generating detailed reports and presentations on bid progress, success rates, and budget performance.
- Assist with maintaining organized records of all estimating activities, bids, and related communications.

- 5+ years of experience in structural steel construction estimating required.
- 2+ years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Construction, materials, systems, market conditions, trade practices knowledge required.
- Experience with Tekla software is preferred.
- Knowledge of construction estimation software, such as Bluebeam or On-Screen Takeoff.
