Position:
Lead SCADA Engineer/PM – Offshore Wind
Location:
Norfolk, VA
Summary:
The Lead SCADA Engineer/PM will support a major offshore wind construction program, serving as a key engineering and project management resource for SCADA and systems communications. This role provides technical leadership across design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operational readiness activities for large-scale offshore wind assets. The position supports a 2,600 MW offshore wind farm consisting of 176 wind turbines, three offshore substations, and related high-voltage subsea infrastructure.
The successful candidate will manage complex SCADA and multi-network communication scopes, collaborating closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and equipment suppliers.
- SCADA & Communications Engineering
- Lead and coordinate commissioning of large-scale project SCADA systems
- Oversee complex multi-network SCADA scopes for inverter-based renewable power generation
- Work on SCADA, ACMS, HMI, project networks, telecom systems, monitoring equipment, and navigational aids
- Validate systems and authorize work prior to energization
- Provide troubleshooting, technical guidance, and leadership across multiple independent communication networks
- Support documentation development and review: plans, reports, as-builts, procedures
- Project Management & Coordination
- Serve as technical leader for SCADA and communication systems during all project phases
- Manage, supervise, and coordinate installation and commissioning activities onsite
- Track progress against schedule and provide input to project managers and schedulers
- Coordinate supplier, contractor, and stakeholder interactions
- Represent owner during inspections, audits, walkdowns, and acceptance of work
- Manage and authorize SCADA-related work in energized work perimeters
- Compliance & Standards
- Support and coordinate documentation and activities relevant to NERC compliance
- Ensure network configurations meet regulatory requirements and separation criteria
- Apply project-specific safety processes including PTW, LOTO, and SIMOPS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field preferred
- Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree
- Minimum 7+ years of SCADA and communication systems engineering experience
- Experience commissioning or operating power plant control centers
- Experience with inverter-based resources, wind (onshore or offshore), solar, or large-scale utility generation
- Preferred experience with SGRE, GE, Vestas, SEMCO Maritime, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy
- Familiarity with supplier networks and integration with utility systems for renewable power
- Experience with multi-network SCADA systems and network segregation requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lead, collaborate, and contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Professional Engineering (PE) license is a plus but not required
- Ability to support offshore work as needed
- Availability for overtime, including up to 60-hour workweeks and routine weekend work
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
