Highway Engineering Department Manager
Location: Virginia (Hybrid/On-Site Options Available)

A well-established and growing civil engineering firm in Virginia is seeking an experienced Highway Engineering Department Manager to lead and expand its transportation practice. This is a senior leadership role for a motivated engineer who enjoys combining technical excellence, team leadership, and client engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage the Highway/Transportation Engineering Department, including staff development, mentoring, and performance management
• Oversee planning, design, and delivery of roadway and highway projects for VDOT, local municipalities, and regional agencies
• Serve as Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight on roadway geometry, drainage, traffic control, and safety improvements
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and quality control standards
• Collaborate with firm leadership on strategic growth, proposals, and business development
• Maintain strong relationships with VDOT, local agencies, and key clients

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia (or ability to obtain)
• 10+ years of highway/roadway design experience, including VDOT projects
• Prior experience managing teams and leading transportation projects
• Strong knowledge of VDOT standards, AASHTO, and roadway design software
• Proven communication, leadership, and client-facing skills
