Do you have a passion for public safety and service? The Virginia State Corporation Commissions (SCC) Division of Utility and Railroad Safety (URS) is seeking a Safety Inspector with those interests to join our team. This Safety Inspector position will be responsible for inspecting operators of pipelines that transport natural gas and hazardous liquids throughout Virginia to ensure that they are complying with the SCCs pipeline safety regulations and the Virginia Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act.
This position requires travel throughout the state (and occasionally outside of the Commonwealth) to perform a variety of different types of inspections including inspecting pipeline operators for compliance with regulations that address pipeline design, construction, operations, maintenance, emergency response, qualification of personnel, integrity management, investigating accidents, and other related topics. The Safety Inspector position will spend time outdoors across the state for year-round inspections, with a portion of that work spent in office environments reviewing records and procedures for compliance. This position offers on-the-job training, and the candidate selected for this position will be required to successfully complete several introductory pipeline safety courses to become a qualified Safety Inspector. The pipeline safety courses are paid for and supported by the SCC (including travel and lodging expenses) and sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportations Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
