OverviewThe Mission Critical Telecommunications Engineer 2 position involves the design, coordination, and implementation of telecommunication structured cabling systems for high density AI‑driven data centers.
This engineer will research, develop, and coordinate engineering solutions for telecommunication cabling, equipment, pathways, spaces, and grounding and bonding for inside and outside plant infrastructure. They will interface with customers, project leadership, field leadership, other trades, manufacturers, and other telecommunications engineers.
They are responsible for producing constructible engineering deliverables including device location plans, space layouts, mounting instructions, cable connections, administration plans, acceptance test plans and reports, quality control plans, studies, calculations, materials lists, cable schedules, operations manuals, and warranties to support design, installation, and closeout.
Responsibilities- Develop, identify, coordinate, and track project requirements
- Coordinate communication connectivity requirements with stakeholders (backbone, interrack cabling, outlet types, media, connectors, topology, device locations)
- Coordinate detailed telecommunications space plans with Architecture, MEP, and Electronic Systems
- Coordinate detailed telecommunications pathway designs, including fill calculations and BIM
- Identify, write, and respond to RFIs
- Produce detailed design and construction drawings in AutoCAD or Revit based on project specs
- Produce coordinated telecommunications construction specifications
- Create and manage cable run lists/system labeling
- Create and manage cable acceptance test plans
- Identify products, create bill of materials, and develop product data deliverables
- Implement M.C. Dean quality control processes to ensure deliverables meet standards
- Perform site surveys, produce reports, and propose solutions
- Produce pre‑fabrication designs and test procedures for PICO activities
- Learn operation and design of active systems (nurse call, public address, distributed antenna, emergency phones)
- Develop knowledge of NFPA codes, TIA standards, BICSI publications, or other criteria
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in telecommunications structured cabling industry and a Bachelor’s Degree in applicable Engineering field
- Detailed, motivated, self‑starter; able to work independently and in a team
- Willing to expand knowledge base to new systems and technologies as project demands dictate
- Basic understanding of TIA standards and NFPA Codes
- Must successfully pass an extensive background check
- Up to 10% travel required
- CompTIA Network+ or Engineer-in‑Training (EIT/FE) or Professional Engineer (PE)
- LEED Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design
- Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
- Design Build Institute of America (DBIA)
- BICSI RCDD
- Experience with CAD or BIM systems such as Revit
- Knowledge of active communication systems (PA, nurse call, DAS, WLAN, emergency phones)
- Manufacturer certifications (optional)
- Prior field installation and testing experience (optional)
- Exposure to computer screens for extended periods
