Civil Engineer Project Manager

Join VHB as a Civil Engineer & Project Manager in our Mid-Atlantic Energy Evolution Practice. This unique opportunity allows you to drive innovation in the energy sector, working on a diverse portfolio of renewable and clean‑energy projects in the Richmond, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach areas.

This role combines engineering leadership with project management responsibilities, contributing to the development and permitting of solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects.

• Serve as Engineer of Record and support preparation of land development design and permitting documents for Solar and BESS projects.
• Prepare and review drawings and specifications documenting system designs.
• Manage project financial performance and routine client communications.
• Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and community members to discuss design and permitting issues.
• Lead and mentor junior staff.
• Manage projects of all sizes.
• Identify new project opportunities and assist with proposal development and submissions.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Project, MS Office;
  ArcGIS desirable.
• Experience implementing an integrated services approach; strong understanding of design, detailing, and construction drawings.
• Knowledge of land development construction materials and detailing; ability to produce detailed drawings and specifications.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of increasing engineering experience on complex projects.
• PE licensure in Virginia or obtain within 6 months.
• Proficiency in site layout, grading, and stormwater management.
• Experience compiling site plans, construction documents, specifications, and engineering reports.
• Understanding of the energy market in the Mid‑Atlantic region, especially Virginia.
