The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks candidates to apply for the Postdoctoral Research Associate
- Infrared Science position. Since its inception in 1996, the VCU College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five departments and the Dean’s office, the College enrolls more than 2,000 undergraduate and 450 graduate students in several degree programs supported by more than 600 part‑time, full‑time, and student employees. - Conduct independent research in infrared detector modeling and characterization.
- Develop and implement experimental protocols for detector testing and validation.
- Mentor and train graduate students in detector physics, experimental techniques, and laboratory best practices.
- Contribute to preparation of research publications and grant proposals.
- Present research findings at professional conferences.
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in infrared detector modeling and simulation.
- Comprehensive experience with the full suite of detector and focal plane array characterization techniques.
- Proven ability to teach and directly mentor graduate students in modern infrared detector physics and experimental methods.
- Reasonable publication record in relevant areas of infrared science.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds, or a commitment to do so as a postdoc at VCU.
- Experience with advanced IR detector architectures and emerging technologies.
- Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation and measurement systems for detector characterization.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary research teams.
