Transportation Lead – Virginia
Lead and grow Moffatt & Nichol’s Virginia Transportation Practice from Richmond or Norfolk. Partner with the Business Unit Leader to shape strategy, identify growth opportunities, and deliver high‑quality transportation services to public and private clients.
Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain key client relationships, actively pursue strategic business, and deliver high‑quality services to VDOT and local agencies.
- Collaborate with clients, regulatory agencies, diverse engineering disciplines, sub‑consultants, and vendors.
- Lead transportation‑related services and deliverables for all projects.
- Assist with evaluation and identification of resources to support pursuits and project delivery.
- Develop and implement a vision for continued diversification of the M&N Transportation Practice.
- Monitor and track projects including scope, schedule, budget, risks, and deliverables.
- Ensure client satisfaction through successful project delivery and repeat business wins.
- Build local and regional visibility by actively participating in external industry organizations.
- Partner in strategy plan to diversify the Transportation Practice and provide an agile growth strategy.
- Implement forward‑thinking strategies for data, technology, and innovation.
- Identify transportation opportunities, maintain a pipeline of projects, and grow business.
- Serve as Project Manager or Principal for strategic transportation projects.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team to deliver project plans, specifications, reports, and outcomes to clients and partners.
- Manage large multidisciplinary highway projects, both traditional bid‑build and alternate delivery (Design‑Build, PPP, ITS, traffic operations, and transportation planning).
- Provide technical support/mentorship to transportation engineering staff.
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project documents and engineering reports.
- Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals, and contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling.
- Minimum 20 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
- Professional Engineering license in the state of Virginia.
- Proven track record in winning VDOT work.
- Experience leading plan production for federal, state, and municipal projects.
- Experience in business administration, management, and design in all areas of civil engineering on transportation, utility, airport, and rail projects.
- Successful completion of a background check in compliance with NIST 800‑171.
