General Description:
- Performs professional duties working with adult education.
- Work requires frequent standing,sitting, walking, and light lifting of up to 10 pounds.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for expressing or exchanging ideas, hearing to perceive information at a normal spoken word level and visual acuity for preparing and analyzing written or computer data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Conducts New Teacher Training including instructor responsibilities, curriculum, resources and other materials included in the Instructor Handbook. Conduct site visits.
- Counsels teachers regarding lesson plan content and class management as needed.
- Provides instructor feedback on retention and post-test performance at the end of each session.
- Plans, develops, and conducts topical staff development. Replies to Adult Education email account.
- Communicates weekly updates to instructors by email and replies to teacher correspondence by phone or email.
- Applies policies and principles related to the National Reporting System (NRS).
- Coordinates and facilitates day and evening registration with evening Counselor and appropriate assessment practices consistent with local and state assessment policies.
- Provides direction pertaining to instruction to teachers. Coordinates placement of substitutes.
- Plans selection of textbooks.
- Collects and reviews monthly reports, intake forms, evaluation forms and lesson plans.
- Performs monthly data entry using the federally mandated NRS.
- Tracks instructor paperwork due and meeting attendance.
- Scans and scores student assessments.
- Facilitates student enrollment or re-enrollment in school programs and related services.
- Develops and maintains a database system for tracking students.
- Identifies progress and challenges in achieving program goals.
- Maintains regular contact with the adult learners and reports relevant information.
- Attends training and professional development (workshops, conferences) at local, state and national levels that apply to job responsibilities, competence in job performance, and professional growth.
- Attend meetings with the Regional Specialist.
- Coordinates and facilitates day and evening registrations with evening High School Equivalency Counselor and appropriate assessment practices consistent with local and state assessment policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in education or related field with experience in adult education.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities of Adult Education practices, teaching and management experience in adult education. Knowledge of HSE testing procedures, CASAS Assessments and goal-setting policies.
- Knowledge and use of National Reporting Data.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and organizational skills required.
- Must have an in-depth understanding of the knowledge, skills and processes needed for the selection, evaluation, and instructional application of the methods and curriculum development in high school equivalency instruction for adult learners.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with specialists, program managers, school administration, and business/community partner agencies.
- Must be available for activities associated with this position that are conducted at varying times: day, evening or weekends for staff development or observation of satellite classes.
