Central Virginia Community College (CVCC) is a comprehensive two‑year institution located in Lynchburg, Virginia, serving approximately 5,000 students. CVCC is seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to provide academic and financial support tools—including FAFSA assistance, financial literacy education, and financial resource options—and implement programming that supports first‑generation, income‑eligible, and/or students with disabilities in the TRIO Student Support Services program.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive knowledge of CVCC policy, practices, offerings, and services, and offer direct support to students via advising and program creation.
- Monitor students’ academic progress, direct them to additional resources, and assist with preparing the Annual Performance Report for the U.S. Department of Education.
- Provide information on the full range of federal student financial aid programs and benefits, including Federal Pell Grant awards, loan forgiveness, and public and private scholarship resources.
- Book guest speakers and create and process grant‑compliance attendance and evaluation paperwork.
- Assist participants in completing the FAFSA each year and ensure proper forms are submitted to maximize federal grant and scholarship consideration while minimizing loan need.
- Offer a comprehensive Personal Finance course to qualifying SSS participants and provide “just‑in‑time” financial check‑in services during student intake.
- Conduct financial literacy training and monitor satisfactory academic progress (SAP) within aid eligibility guidelines.
- Participate in open houses, orientation sessions, FAFSA completion events, workshops, and other events to help participants navigate the financial aid process.
- Assist the agency or state government in emergency declarations by the Governor if required.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience providing services to diverse populations.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a stressful environment.
- Knowledge of financial aid and financial literacy.
- Education, training, and/or experience equivalent to an associate’s degree.
- Individuals from backgrounds similar to those of TRIO participants and those who have overcome obstacles during higher education or have previously worked for TRIO programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience in a higher education setting.
- Experience with creating and implementing programming geared toward helping underserved college student populations.
