English Adjunct Faculty (Part-Time)
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and currently enrolls more than 9,000 students in credit courses and over 1,400 students in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses.
OverviewPosition:
Adjunct Faculty (English)
Location:
Roanoke, VA (in-person and online teaching possible)
Hours:
Variable, based on course offerings and enrollment; appointments are course‑by‑course, semester‑by‑semester, as needed.
- Teach college‑level English courses in-person and/or online during the day and/or evenings.
- Prepare syllabi, exams, and learning materials, and assess student learning.
- Stay current in the discipline and in trends in community‑college education.
- Work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Master’s degree in English or in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in English courses.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to write syllabi and exams; develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
- Doctorate degree in English.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
