Overview
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. This is a part-time Adjunct Faculty position in the Workforce Solutions department for an Industrial Safety Instructor. The instructor will perform technical instructional assignments and classroom preparation requiring knowledge of OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and the bridge between the two credentials. Adjunct faculty appointments are on an as-needed, course-by-course, semester basis.
Responsibilities- Deliver instruction in Industrial Safety topics, including OSHA 10 and OSHA 30, and bridge content between the two credentials.
- Perform classroom preparation and related instructional duties to support the program and the Workforce Solutions department.
- Contribute to course development, including syllabi and assessments, and adapt instruction for students with varying abilities and diverse backgrounds.
- Assist in other instructor-related duties as needed and may participate in special assignments.
- Support emergency declarations or state government needs as required.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a current OSHA Authorized Construction and/or General Industry Outreach Trainer Card.
- Three years of Construction and/or General Industry safety-related experience.
- Five years of teaching/conducting OSHA Industry Outreach Training Program classes (10- and 30-hour classes).
- Safety & Training: 3 years (Required).
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Associate’s degree in a Career and Technical Education field is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver instruction in classroom and lab environments and to achieve high student credential and institutional outcomes.
