North Richmond Farm Education Coordinator Position Description

Urban Tilth’s North Richmond Farm Education Coordinator will report to the North Richmond Farm Education Program Manager and is responsible for supporting the development of urban agricultural, ecological, and environmental knowledge, as well as leadership, employment, and transformative life skills training for Richmond and San Pablo community members.

This position supports the organization and facilitation of age-specific, year-round urban farming and ecological learning programming at the North Richmond Farm and within the greater Richmond community.

The Farm Education Coordinator will support the Education Program Manager in hosting educational field trip and group tour requests from K–12 schools, community colleges, and universities. This role assists with the organization of experiential learning activities, discussions, and workshops. The position requires working some Saturdays and/or Sundays according to programming needs.

This role also supports the planning, delivery, and reporting of the 2026 North Richmond Farm After school Program, as well as hosting an annual Spring Break Program at the North Richmond Farm.

Additionally, this position assists with planning, delivery, and reporting on weekly senior gardening activities in collaboration with the North Richmond Senior Center. Responsibilities include maintaining relationships with partners at the Corrine Sain Senior Center and creating engagement schedules that meet participant needs.

The position also supports programming at the North Richmond Farm Annex U-Pick areas, including hosting weekly community engagement opportunities focused on seasonal activities such as organic gardening, minimal-till soil care practices, composting, tool safety, and proper harvesting techniques.

Position Responsibilities
  • Support all North Richmond Farm field trip inquiries and group tour requests from K–12 schools, community colleges, and universities.
    • Host and document a minimum of four (4) field trips from local Richmond and San Pablo schools.
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of three 8-week after school program series, held weekly on Wednesdays from 3:30–5:00 PM, during the following periods:
    • Series 1:
      February–March
    • Series 2:
      May–June
    • Series 3:
      August–September
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of one annual Spring Break Program held April 6–10, 2026.
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of three 8-week “Senior Gardening Days” series in collaboration with the Farm Community Engagement Manager and Nursery Manager:
    • Series 1:
      February–March
    • Series 2:
      May–June
    • Series 3:
      August–September
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of weekly community programming at the North Richmond Farm Annex U-Pick areas.
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of one wellness event during the month of July.
  • Assist in the design, preparation, recruitment, facilitation, and documentation of a quarterly educational activity for the 4th Saturday Volunteer Event.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with creating independent post-program summaries for:
    • After school Program (post-series)
    • Senior Gardening Program (post-series)
    • Spring Break Program (post-program)
    • North Richmond Farm Annex U-Pick Area Programming (annual)
    • North Richmond Farm Field Trips (annual)
  • Assist in designing and creating an annual top-level North Richmond Farm Education Program report.
  • Take the lead in organizing all documentation (photos, sign-in sheets, and surveys) into Google Drive and Dropbox, as appropriate.
  • Attend monthly Communications Team meetings.
Required Skills
  • 1–2 years of experience in outdoor youth education, particularly with youth of color
  • 2–3 years of experience in farming, gardening, or land management
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to meet deadlines
  • Training and/or experience in conflict resolution
  • Proficiency with social media, communications platforms, Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and Excel
