Job Description:
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System. The College is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA, serving Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. Courses include Principles of Plumbing Trade I, Principles of Plumbing Trade II, and Plumbing Code and Certification Preparation.
Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education and to participate in departmental communication. Applications are reviewed on a continuous basis and may be considered when an adjunct faculty need arises.
- Teach college-level Plumbing courses in-person on the main Virginia Western campus (as needed, course-by-course, semester basis).
- Maintain currency in teaching discipline and trends in community college education.
- Be an active participant in departmental communication.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned and may assist the agency or state government in case of emergency declarations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; five years of occupational experience in the residential and/or commercial plumbing field.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to write syllabi and exams; develop learning strategies, curriculum and assessments; and work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
