Summary:
The Department of Gerontology at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting for a pool of persons for possible part-time adjunct teaching positions. This pool will be utilized on an as-needed basis. Your application will be active for one year. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Department Summary: The Department of Gerontology, founded in 1976, became a part of the College of Health Professions at Virginia Commonwealth University in January 1985. The department is well-known for the quality and innovation of its programs and for the scholarship and applied expertise of its faculty. The Department of Gerontology offers a variety of degree programs based on an interdisciplinary approach using the bio-psycho-social model.
With a mission of promoting optimal aging for individuals and communities, Gerontology graduates further the person-centered mission of the department largely in the areas of administration, education, advocacy, and entrepreneurship. The Gerontology Department envisions continued commitment to service, scholarship, and education, with a focus on the Disrupt Ageism and Elderhood Development paradigms.
- Meet all designated course instruction guidelines.
- Plan course content based on specific knowledge and expertise in gerontology. Topics may include, but are not limited to: trauma-informed care, end-of-life, spirituality and aging, or financial management.
- Design and develop course content, syllabus, learning objectives, and assignments.
- Facilitate course engagement and student assessment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree in gerontology or related field.
- Subject matter expertise in the topic and subject of the course being taught.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an adjunct faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
- Membership in gerontology professional organizations.
Salary Range: $1,500/credit hour
