Cashier & Admissions Specialist

Overview

Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is seeking a Cashier & Admissions Specialist for the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville, VA. This position supports both the Cashiering and Admissions departments and serves as an important point of contact for students throughout their enrollment experience.

Established in 1970, SVCC is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with locations across multiple counties. SVCC offers programs in developmental studies, academic, technical, and lifelong education and is accredited to award associate degrees.

• Serve as campus cashier to collect state, local, and federal funds over the counter, by mail, and/or electronically in an accurate and timely manner while providing excellent customer service; responsible for receipting and depositing all monies, state and local, received
• Record payments on student and third-party accounts daily as received
• Provide local funds account support including account coding, keying, and printing checks
• Perform due diligence and management of unclaimed checks issued from state and local funds
• Respond to all questions and concerns regarding student accounts in a clear, accurate, and timely manner
• Serve as an Admissions Specialist to offer accurate and timely processing of student records and assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators as needed
• Provide prompt, courteous, efficient service in guiding prospective students through the admissions process from initial inquiry through enrollment

Other duties as assigned. May be required to perform other duties as assigned, and may be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Adept at managing tasks and balancing priorities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent customer service in a timely and accurate manner
• Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite
• Ability to work as an effective member of a team
• Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically, and age-diverse individuals
• Demonstrated experience in cashiering and customer service
• Experience working with spreadsheets
• Ability to handle confidential information, use professional discretion, and exercise ethical conduct

• Previous experience with People Soft or similar student registration software
• Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
• Previous accounting experience
• Relevant experience in higher education or with a Virginia state agency

Travel to SVCC campuses, centers, and trainings/conferences with access to a state vehicle.
