History Teaching Faculty

Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC delivers accessible and affordable educational opportunities, including for‑credit transfer and career technical programs, robust distance education coursework, quality dual enrollment courses, and award‑winning workforce training and credentialing programs.

RCC’s annualized enrollment of 3,700 credit students in 2024‑2025 and almost 800 workforce and community development students are supported by almost 140 full‑time employees and over 200 part‑time/adjunct employees across two main campuses and four satellite sites.

RCC seeks applicants for a faculty‑ranked, on‑campus teaching position in History
. This position is a nine‑month appointment with an excellent benefits package. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, but will not be less than $58,000. The position begins on August 16, 2026.

The primary duties of the History Teaching Faculty member will include maintaining a quality curriculum and delivering high‑quality courses. This includes instructional design, delivery, effectiveness, and subject‑matter expertise. Faculty are required to teach 15 credit hours per semester. Other duties include academic advising, student office hours, recruiting students, special projects, mentoring adjunct and dual instructors, community outreach, and service on college committees.

While this position will be primarily located on the Glenns Campus, its teaching schedules may include alternative sites and campuses. Finalists will be asked to perform a teaching demonstration.

Required Qualifications:
  • Masters in History or Master’s with 18 graduate semester hours in History
  • Knowledge of effective pedagogical practices
  • Demonstrated ability to define and assess student learning outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to create courses with knowledge of instructional teaching platforms
  • Experience using advanced instructional technology including video, audio, and interactive educational software
  • Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
Additional Considerations:
  • One year of teaching experience with post‑secondary or community college teaching preferred
  • Prefer 18 graduate credits in a second teaching discipline taught at the college
  • Experience using the Canvas application
