Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis. as needed. Responsibilities include teaching developmental and/or college-level courses, which may include distance‑learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Primarily face‑to‑face with the possibility of remote instruction.

Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two‑year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. Our scenic campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We are one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS).PVCC

We are seeking to identify qualified and interested adjunct faculty members in the following teaching disciplines and/or subject areas: ELECTRONICS/MANUFACTURING

The adjunct professor will be responsible for teaching electronics and manufacturing courses in a hands‑on experiential format. Professor will have knowledge and application of electronic devices, current microcontrollers, mechanical processes and machinery, and basic communication protocols. Students in these classes build on fundamental electronics and manufacturing skills to troubleshoot, design, and build different projects related to the course material. The instructor will be responsible for making sure the projects focus on industry skills and the materials are provided for students in a timely manner.

Primarily face‑to‑face with the possibility of remote instruction.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to create positive classroom/lab culture that provides foundational knowledge for electronics and manufacturing courses
  • Teach in a hands‑on, experiential format
  • Knowledge of a basic microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of programming languages and how to troubleshoot
  • Create open‑ended problems for students to solve creatively
  • Classroom management of lab‑based classrooms, including maintaining equipment and supplies
  • Work with students in a diverse environment with a sensitivity to all members of the community.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess expert skills, knowledge, experience and education in the subject area and a history of successful teaching or related experience.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in the field or Associate’s degree in the field with demonstrated competency in the teaching field. In addition, two years of related occupational experience is required.

Additional Considerations

Two years teaching experience, work experience in the field, and experience with on‑line teaching.
