Working Title Adjunct Instructor Pool - Phlebotomy Program. The position is a part-time adjunct faculty role at Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC), teaching in the Workforce Services division to support workforce training and credentialing programs. The position is appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis and may include distance-learning courses during the day or evening, on weekdays and weekends. Primary teaching may be face-to-face with the possibility of remote instruction.

PVCC is a nonresidential two-year institution serving Central Virginia. The college emphasizes transfer curricula, partnerships with local employers, and workforce development programs. The following overview describes the workload and expectations for adjunct instructors supporting workforce training and credentialing programs across the region.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective didactic and skills instruction to engage an adult learner audience.
  • Maintain a positive and safe learning environment; adhere to college policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a role model and advocate for student success.
  • Hold review, remediation and office hour sessions for students; maintain participation and performance records.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment.
  • Provide timely and appropriate responses to student, staff and partner inquiries; report incidents.
  • Participate in professional development and partner onboarding requirements; maintain professional competence, certifications/licensure.
  • Assist in student recruitment activities.
  • Possibly perform other duties as assigned and respond to emergency declarations as needed.
  • Access to teaching assignments may require Developmental and/or college-level course instruction, including distance-learning options.
Qualifications
  • Current certification as a phlebotomist (NHA, ASCP, etc.).
  • Two years of direct patient care as a phlebotomist.
  • Combination of education and industry credentials to demonstrate content expertise.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to community college philosophy and student success.
Additional Considerations
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant healthcare field.
  • Experience teaching adult learners and/or in a community college setting.
  • Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses.
  • Experience using Canvas or similar learning management system.
  • Recent experience preparing adult students for credentialing exams.
  • Current AHA-BLS CPR certification.
