Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads for 50 years. It is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in the region, enrolling nearly 28,000 students. Founded in 1968, the college offers education across four campuses, regional centers, and cultural institutions. It is accredited through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Responsibilities- Teaching: create a learning environment that facilitates acquisition of knowledge and skills in photography. Teaching encompasses the following four components:
- Instructional Design: use Syllabus Builder and other resources, design assessment strategies to measure learning outcomes.
- Instructional Delivery: align activities with learning outcomes, employ active learning and technology, provide timely feedback.
- Instructional Effectiveness: deliver instruction aligned with outcomes, participate in student surveys, assess learning, develop action plans.
- Instructional Expertise: maintain currency in the discipline and instructional technology.
- Scholarly and Creative Engagement: participate in conferences, workshops, coursework, research, publications, and grant activity.
- Institutional Responsibility: participate in faculty development, publish office hour schedule, serve as advisor, attend meetings, submit grades, adhere to policies, and maintain collegial relationships.
- Service: engage in college representation, college citizenship, and community citizenship activities.
- College representation: activities directly linked to the faculty position.
- College citizenship: support college or VCCS initiatives without leadership role.
- Community citizenship: activities reflecting community involvement as a college employee.
- Work may occur during day, evening, weekend, or through distance learning programs.
- Willingness to design and implement curriculum to support and improve student learning.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies for diverse community college students.
- Use of formative and summative assessments to enhance learning.
- Experience or willingness to learn proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Willingness to incorporate emerging technologies and alternate delivery methods, including online and hybrid.
- Effective interpersonal communication, oral and written.
- Commitment to current and continual improvement in discipline knowledge.
- Preferred: teaching experience at the community college level.
- Education: Master's or MFA in Photography.
- Minimum of two years of related full-time occupational experience.
- Experience with photography, Adobe products (Lightroom, etc.), equipment, and studio oversight.
- Familiarity with current industry standards.
- Preferred: experience teaching different levels of photography courses and two-dimensional design.
