Professor of History – Central Virginia Community College
Location:
Lynchburg, VA (Blue Ridge Mountains view)
Teach 30 credit hours (in‑person day and evening classes, synchronous or asynchronous online modalities) per academic year and maintain 10 office hours per week.
Participate in departmental administrative responsibilities and committee assignments related to college governance, student support, and success. Teaching assignments may include classes on the main campus, at off‑site centers, and with dual‑enrolled Early College, CTE Academy, and Governor’s STEM Academy students.
Special AssignmentsMay be required to perform other duties as assigned, and may assist the agency or state government in emergencies declared by the Governor.
Required Qualifications- Minimum of a master’s degree in history or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credits in history.
- Proficiency and willingness to teach undergraduate history courses across the college’s degree programs and platforms.
- Proficiency in and willingness to incorporate new and emerging pedagogies in the classroom.
- Demonstrated effective and engaging teaching skills, both in person and online.
- Ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population.
- Prior teaching experience in the community college environment and teaching dual‑enrolled students.
- PhD (preferred).
May involve teaching at CVCC off‑site centers in Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, or Campbell counties.
