Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education within the Virginia Community College System. Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis and teach college-level courses in-person on the main campus. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education.

• Teach college-level Mathematics courses in-person on the main campus as needed, on a course-by-course, semester basis.
• Maintain currency in the teaching discipline and in trends in community college education.
• Develop syllabi, exams, learning strategies, curricula, and assessments; communicate effectively with students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
• May be assigned other duties as needed and may assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

• Master’s degree in Mathematics, or a Master’s degree in any field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Mathematics courses.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to write syllabi and exams; ability to develop learning strategies, curricula, and assessments; ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.

• Doctorate degree in Mathematics (preferred).
• Teaching experience at the college level (preferred).
