The mission of the Division of Hospital Medicine is to provide world class care and world class caring for every child and every family we serve every day. We work in partnership with other pediatric medical and surgical specialists to provide direct pediatric patient care for children with acute or chronic diseases and those with special health care needs. Pediatric Hospital Medicine plays an integral role in the tripartite mission of the Department of Pediatrics.
Our faculty contribute to and lead educational programs (medical students, residents, fellows and ancillary staff), quality and safety initiatives, clinical research, and hospital committee work. The division is essential to furthering the strategic mission and goals of CHoR and VCU Health System (VCUHS).
The Children s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University is currently seeking an academic faculty member for the Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine. CHoR at VCU is committed to the provision of the highest quality patient care and service excellence. This is a full time position providing direct care on the academic teams at our qua ternary childrens hospital. In addition to clinical care, faculty have the opportunity to develop career interests in medical education, quality improvement, clinical research, or hospital leadership.
Responsibilities- Teaching:
Provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents and fellows when applicable. Provide education to ancillary staff as needed. - Service:
Serve on hospital or departmental committees when appropriate, and engage in professional activities through journal review, conference presentations and national organization committee work. - Clinical (Anticipate 1.0 Full Time Clinical Equivalent effort (cFTE)):
Provide clinical service as a Pediatric Hospitalist in the CHoR. Shifts are distributed equitably based upon FTE allocation, additional roles and responsibilities, and seasonal trends. A full-time clinical role is 152 shifts for FY26. - Administrative:
Participate in committee work, develop clinical guidelines, and participate in division and department faculty meetings and educational conferences for faculty development and fellowship training. Contribute to training the next generation of pediatricians and academic hospitalists. - Research:
The CHoR, Department of Pediatrics, and Division of Hospital Medicine support basic science, translations, health services, clinical, improvement science, and medical education research. The CHRI supports research through internal grant opportunities, mentorship, and research staff. Financial support is possible for specific academic or research interests of the faculty member.
REQUIRED
- Candidates must be board certified in pediatrics or internal medicine-pediatrics.
- All candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in Virginia.
- Drug Enforcement Administration certification
- Credentialing at VCUHS is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
PREFERRED
- Two or more years of clinical experience in pediatric hospital medicine.
- Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Completion of Pediatric Fellowship training is preferred but not required.
- Current board certification in pediatric hospital medicine is preferred but not required.
- Prior leadership experience or program development in pediatric hospital medicine.
- Prior experience or formal training in clinical research
