Chief Purpose of this Position
We are seeking candidates to directly care for patients in the orthopaedic trauma service line. The candidate will improve quality and efficiency of orthopaedic services at VCU Health System and provide prompt high-quality orthopaedic trauma care. The incumbent will assist and develop orthopaedic faculty with interest in new technologies, clinical research and teaching along with mentoring residents and fellows and working within the hospital system and with other departments to provide multidisciplinary care for orthopaedic non-operative sports medicine patients.
Responsibilities:
Teaching
The candidate will staff inpatient services with learners including medical students, interns and residents; use contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice; demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels; complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner.
Research
The candidate will participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills, interest and funding; research opportunities may include performance improvement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations; participation may be as principal investigator or co-investigator; maintain a level of scholarship in Orthopaedic Surgery consistent with academic rank.
Service
The candidate will work with institutional staff and administration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System, including patient safety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
Clinical
The candidate will manage patients who present through the orthopaedic trauma service, co-management of patients on other services, triage medicine patient requiring admission in the Emergency Department and non-medical services and non-VCU hospitals; join colleagues in assuring coverage 24-hours a day, every day of the year; comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies for professional work including credentialing, documentation, billing;
work effectively with other members of the extended inter-professional team.
Other
The candidate will ensure compliance with all regulatory and regulatory reimbursement requirement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.D. degree and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery certification/eligibility for orthopaedic surgery.
- Must have successfully completed an accredited fellowship program in orthopaedic trauma surgery.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team, providing effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Record of scholarly publication in peer review journals.
- Direct experience managing complex orthopaedic trauma cases, competence in standard inpatient procedures.
- A solid understanding of the orthopaedic trauma role and function and interest in teaching and growth in an academic setting.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in furthering the research, scholarly and academic missions of the group
