Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Ophthalmology at the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center supports a large health system providing both primary and tertiary care. The advertised position is responsible for direct patient care and supervision in three outpatient settings that include the Main Campus, V.A. Medical Center, and suburban ASC locations. Excellent diagnostic and surgical skills are required. The department supports a 16 resident ophthalmology training program with a full 5-year ACGME Accreditation.
Appointment at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor is available commensurate with experience.
The successful candidate must maintain high clinical and ethical standards that will be carried into decision-making processes, adhere to compliance measures, establish and promote an atmosphere of unity through collaborative practice and effective communication between all staff disciplines, and foster a high level of patient and staff satisfaction. Residents and certified ophthalmic medical technicians assist with patient care and ancillary testing.
A Physician Practice Group compensation plan provides an opportunity for a competitive, market-based salary. The position will be offered at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certified/Board Eligible/On Pathway toward Board Certification in Ophthalmology and completed adult and pediatric vitreoretinal surgery fellowships and fellowship training in ocular oncology.
- Candidate must also possess/maintain a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
