Kahler Slater is seeking a registered Project Architect who is enthusiastic about leading technical solutions for our Higher Education projects.
Our ideal Project Architect is passionate about the technical needs of higher education, sports, and cultural projects with experience developing and detailing complex projects. As a Project Architect, you have knowledge of a variety of building typologies, construction techniques, sustainability methods, and building technologies. As a key team member, you will contribute to our robust national portfolio, mid-Atlantic clientele, and directly impact our ability to achieve continued market growth.
You will work with a team that is aligned with our open and flexible culture that encourages individual initiative and collaboration. You will build trusting relationships within the team and across Kahler Slater.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities of a Project Architect – Higher Education Project Development- Assists in leading the planning and design phases of significant higher education,sports, recreation, and wellness, projects, generating, and translating design concepts into final architectural solutions
- Support Project Manager in project management tasks, focusing on schedule, staffing, and budget
- Coordinate the project’s design intent with technical project requirements
- Direct and manage the internal and external design team from initial planning through construction administration
- Inspire, motivate, and lead project team in client service, design approach, and project delivery
- Establish an environment that encourages experimentation, innovation, and design creativity
- Contribute to a high level of energy and enthusiasm in the firm, and foster a spirit of collaborative problem solving and design excellence
- Represents the team with multipleeducation, sports, and culture clients,industry partners, contractors, consultants, and public authorities
- 7+ years of experience as an architectural professional with experience in higher education, sports and/or civic/culturemarkets
- Experience with public and private higher education clients/projects preferred
- Professional degree in Architecture
- Architectural registration is required
- 4+ years of Revit production experience, and proficiency utilizing Revitand automation technologies
- Experience in the selection of building materials and systems
- Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
- Diligent in seeking solutions to complex problems
- Strong communication skills, spoken, written, and graphic
- Focus on collaboration and cooperation with others, demonstrating project and technical leadership
- Highly attentive to client needs
- Ability to coach and be coachable
- Able to work effectively under pressure and within restrictive time deadlines and budget parameters while maintaining focus, positive attitude
- Completion of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Construction & Professional Services Manual (CPSM) Webinar and prior Division of Engineering & Buildings (DEB) project experience helpful
- Report to Team Lead and Project Lead
- Collaborate with other design and project team members
- Represent the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater’s core values
Work is performed in a professional, collaborative, creative, open office environment. Occasional travel is expected as it relates to servicing clients and professional development.
