Department SummaryThe Department of Endodontics at Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) School of Dentistry advances oral health through education, research, patient care, and leadership. Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Department of Endodontics in the VCU School of Dentistry invites candidates to apply for a teaching and research faculty position. Rank and tenure eligibility commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience. The primary mission of the School of Dentistry is to educate practitioners of dentistry capable of meeting the general oral health needs of the communities they serve. This faculty position will include teaching responsibilities in the predoctoral endodontic curriculum to include clinical and didactic teaching as well as course directorship.
Other responsibilities include didactic and clinical instruction of endodontics in the Advanced Education in Endodontics Program.
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Dentistry is located in downtown Richmond, Virginia. With a 133-year history, Virginia's only dental school provides opportunities for selected, qualified individuals to study dentistry and oral health through a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S) program, graduate specialty training programs and a dental hygiene program. The VCU School of Dentistry is one of a small number of dental schools in the country affiliated with an academic medical center, the only dental school in the Commonwealth, and one of the oldest dental schools in the United States founded in 1893.
It is one of six health sciences academic programs on the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) Campus of VCU.
Faculty members are expected to teach in an integrated curriculum system that includes graduate and professional education. Teaching across traditional departmental lines and in multidisciplinary teams is required. Faculty is expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, teaching, scholarship, and creative expression. Responsibilities include didactic, preclinical and clinical teaching of predoctoral students and postdoctoral endodontic residents.
Mentorship to become the graduate endodontic program director is desired.
It is desired that faculty will participate in research in an area of focus consistent with the mission of the VCU School of Dentistry and the Department of Endodontics. The research work may be done collaboratively with other faculty or independently.
ServiceFaculty is expected to serve on committees within the School of Dentistry and at the University level as assigned. The faculty position will involve participation in professional and community related service projects that promote oral health and maintenance of the natural dentition.
